In today's video I debunk the employment relations myth of immediate dismissals or automatically dismissals. This is where an employee commits a very serious, often dismissible offence and an employer immediately / automatically dismisses them. I discuss why this is a myth and how to go about the dismissal in a fair way. I include the applicable provisions of the Labour relations Act to assist employers to find the necessary information to meet the requirements of a fair dismissal (substantive and procedural fairness). I then move on to discuss closely related terms / concepts. I start with explaining a summary dismissal, and then move on to discussing dismissible offences. While discussing dismissible offences I give some examples and some other information about disciplinary hearings. Finally I briefly discuss how automatic dismissals differ from automatically unfair dismissals. The end of the video has a quick summary to go over the content.
