Prohibition Era Cocktails are some of my favorite to make. I love the Scofflaw Cocktail Recipe because it comes together with a beautiful balance of flavors... and it also pokes some fun at the US during prohibition. The term Scofflaw was actually coined during the 1920s to describe those breaking the law to enjoy a cocktail. It was made because of a contest the Boston Herald made in order to come up with a good way to describe these imbibers. However in France, where alcohol consumption was alive and well, the cocktail was created in order to take a little jab at us here on the other side of the pond. The result was a timeless classic that you should certainly try: the Scofflaw cocktail. The version I am making uses a nice Rye whiskey, but there are other variations that call for Canadian whiskey or Bourbon.
