Waves of Affection portrays the emotional awakening of a young girl experiencing her first romantic attachment. The piece centers on feelings of affection, longing, and emotional restraint, capturing the tendency to idealize another person and to become deeply influenced by their words and actions during the early stages of emotional attachment. On the surface, the music appears light, romantic, and gently playful. Beneath this sweetness, however, lies a sense of vulnerability and quiet grievance. The work reflects the experience of repeatedly being given hope without real progress, resulting in emotional suspension and inner discomfort rather than fulfillment. The emotional turning point occurs after yet another broken promise. Instead of remaining silent as before, I chose to confront the situation and express my concerns. Through this confrontation, I gradually recognized the other person’s avoidance of responsibility and self-centered nature. With this realization, the idealized image constructed through emotional projection collapsed, and the illusion of perfection dissolved. Although this relationship left me emotionally low for an extended period of time, and difficult to openly share with others, reflection allowed me to see it from a different perspective. I came to understand that encountering different kinds of people is essential to gaining a clearer understanding of both the world and myself. The piece therefore does not dwell in emotional injury, but rather transforms personal experience into growth and awareness. Structurally, the composition follows an ABA form. The initial A section represents the idealized beauty perceived through emotional filters; the B section expresses the frustration and disbelief that follow the confrontation with reality—the feeling that something once perceived as beautiful could collapse so suddenly. The returning A section reflects acceptance after clarity, carrying a sense of release and gratitude. It acknowledges that every encounter in life contributes to personal growth and emotional depth.
