Several individuals, including TTD staff (such as a former GM procurement) and dairy representatives, were implicated and arrested in the 15-month-long investigation. Leaders from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), including former TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy, argued that the accusations were politically driven and part of a "yellow media" campaign designed to malign the previous YSRCP government. They claimed that strict protocols were in place, with multiple rejections of substandard ghee occurring during their tenure. While early, unverified reports in September 2024 suggested the presence of animal fat (lard, tallow) in the ghee, the comprehensive SIT investigation, concluded in early 2026, reportedly focused on chemical adulteration and synthetic ghee (vegetable oil-based) rather than confirming animal-derived fat. Pro-TDP media and political opponents have accused YSRCP of spreading "propaganda" by trying to downplay or deny the massive adulteration (found to be around 80% chemical-based) that occurred during the 2019–2024 period. The Supreme Court has previously cautioned against making unsubstantiated public remarks regarding the temple prasadam, which previously caused significant public controversy. The SIT concluded that the adulteration was not a simple quality control issue but a large-scale, deliberate conspiracy spanning multiple years.
