NOTE FROM TED: TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... Jen Barnes founded the first business built to promote gender equity in sports viewing and fandom. What would change if women’s sports were treated as worthy of the same attention, investment, and belief as men’s sports? Jen explores why equal pay, equal play, and equal visibility are inseparable, and why simply watching women’s sports is far more powerful than many people realize. Drawing from a lifetime as an athlete, fan, and advocate, Jen shares how the lack of access, coverage, and cultural support for women’s sports shapes everything from opportunity to value, and why changing viewing habits can help change the future of leadership and women's sports. Jen Barnes is a Seattleite and a trailblazing entrepreneur. She launched Rough & Tumble in 2022, built intentionally to elevate gender equity in sports fandom. After 20 years in law and business, Jen followed her passion for women’s sports and action. Named one of Seattle Magazine’s “Most Influential” and honored by OL Reign as a “Legend,” Jen’s leadership addresses critical gaps in women's sports. She co-founded Salmon Bay FC, Seattle’s first pre-professional women’s soccer team. Passionate about Title IX and equity, Jen’s TEDx talk explores how women’s sports are ready for change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
