Traditional torrijas are one of the most characteristic sweets of Spanish cuisine, especially during Lent and Holy Week. It is believed that torrijas originated as a way to use up stale bread. They were softened in milk or wine and fried. Over time, they became a typical sweet treat for religious celebrations, as they provided energy during times of fasting. In this video, I show you how to make homemade torrijas. We'll prepare the three most traditional torrija recipes: 1. Traditional torrija: This is the most classic and simple version. 2. Torrija in syrup: The torrijas are soaked in a syrup made with water, sugar, orange peel, and, optionally, a little honey. 3. Torrijas in Caramel Milk: In this variation, a caramel is prepared with the infused milk to soak the torrijas and serve them with the milk.
