George sent this along for the community build and it's a masterpiece. George sells these clutches in different kit configurations or you can buy just the individual components you require. The two clutch halves are CNC-machined from billet aluminium. This is modern engineering and manufacturing at their best. Just to look at it, this clutch is obviously a well-made, quality component. It also feels awesome to hold--there are no sharp edges, it's smooth to touch--to the point of being shiny, and it's altogether refined. Looks aside, this clutch will spin true on any engine shaft that runs true, which ultimately reduces vibration transmitted to your mower frame and is a great way to reduce stress fractures and cracking in your twin rail and even solid deck frames. This clutch will replace your existing clutch body. It's available to fit 5/8" or 3/4" engine shafts and uses the same cork material, in the same place, and engages the clutch cone in the same way as the original clutch design. The clutch is secured to the engine shaft using a key, a cotter pin and a single retaining bolt. The high tensile cotter pin is matched to the size of the engine shaft and clutch bore of either 5/8" or 3/4". Unlike your run of the mill cotter pins, the radius of the cut-out on George's cotter pins actually matches the radius of your engine shaft. Given the opportunity to rethink and modernise this clutch, George replaced the conventional thrust bearing (with the rounded edge) with a quality Japanese bearing. These sealed bearings are readily available off the shelf. The clutch is supplied with the bearing already installed. This bearing additionally receives a stainless steel top hat, which has a spring seat cut into it to receive the clutch spring. The top hat is pressed into the bearing in the same way we're used to with the intermediate clutch. When it comes time to put the clutch together, you'll find the two clutch halves fit together perfectly, as you'd expect, but you'll also find the holes for the three fastening screws on the engine-side half are threaded--a nice touch. This clutch body fits your Scott Bonnar Model 45 or 17" Rover and is the perfect companion to a new engine. The kit includes: • 1 x engine-side clutch half • 1 x ring-side half • 1 x stainless steel clutch spring • 1 x upgraded Japanese bearing, installed with a stainless steel top hat • 1 x high-tensile cotter pin with washer and nut • 3 x stainless screws, washers and Nyloc nuts • 1 key • Locking fasteners Be sure to add corks to your cart if required as they're not included in this kit. ⚠️ Your safety is your responsibility.
