Night feeding naturally decreases as babies grow and develop. According to most pediatric experts, around 6 months of age, many babies can gradually reduce or stop night feedings if they are receiving enough milk during the day and have started solid foods. At this stage, a baby’s stomach can hold more milk, allowing them to stay full longer and maintain longer stretches of sleep at night. Reaching healthy growth milestones is an important factor when considering dropping night feeds. If a baby’s weight and height fall within or above the average range on the World Health Organization growth charts, and there are no signs of undernutrition or delayed development, parents may begin to gently encourage night weaning. Another clear sign of readiness is the ability to sleep through the night without crying from hunger. Babies who can sleep continuously for 6 to 8 hours and wake up in the morning alert, happy, and energetic are often capable of meeting their nutritional needs during daytime hours. Daytime intake also plays a crucial role. Babies who nurse more frequently during the day or eat solid foods well are typically consuming enough calories to support growth without needing additional night feeds. However, not all babies are ready to stop night feeding at the same time. Premature babies, low birth weight infants, or those with chronic medical conditions or recovering from illness may need to continue night feeding longer to ensure adequate nutrition and healthy development. Parents should always consider their baby’s individual needs and consult a healthcare professional if unsure. #nightweaning #babyfeeding #infantnutrition #babydevelopment #sleepthroughthenight #parentingtips #babycare
