Crip time is a term emerging through critical disability studies that articulates the constraining effects of time in one’s encounter with ableist institutional and societal barriers, while also becoming a liberatory mode of resistance and a catalyst for structural change. This presentation explores crip time in both ways as I recount my experiences as a neurodivergent (former) university art student, how it impacts my pedagogy and curriculum development as a (current) art educator, and how this can create awareness and action for all art educators toward fostering equity and access for neurodivergent students. This presentation will articulate how a crip time analysis of higher art education impacts practice at the local level by individual students and teachers, while also raising a challenge to university leadership to implement change at the institutional level in impacting policy toward greater equity and access in consideration of neurodivergent temporality in higher art education.
