With all the conversations and buzz as candidates are being announced for the 2026 South Australian election, I thought it was the perfect time to put the call out to current MPs and new candidates to come on and have an open chat about why they’re running, their thoughts on key issues like healthcare, education, child protection, justice system and anything else that matters to South Australians. It’s an open mic style conversation - no scripts, no spin - just real people sharing their views. In this episode, Cody Scholes, Independent candidate for Mount Gambier, joins me to talk about who he is, what motivated him to run, and his vision for the future of his community and our state. Cody is a genuine people person who values direct engagement with the community and believes strongly in representing the real voices of everyday people. A former paramedic, small business owner running his own pressure washing business, and a proud dog lover, Cody brings grounded, real world experience to the table. He is passionate about raising the standard of who we send to Parliament and believes representation should be based on integrity, accountability and lived experience, not career politics. Through his work as a paramedic, Cody has seen firsthand the emotional and physical toll placed on people and frontline workers within strained systems. These experiences have shaped his strong commitment to fairness, honesty and transparency. He understands where systems fail people and is determined to advocate not only for practical reform that puts communities first within his electorate, but also for statewide legislative, policy and system improvements across multiple sectors.
