Have you ever obeyed God and, as a result, been punished by people? The story of Daniel is one of the classic examples of how to follow God even when it is inconvenient and unpopular. In Daniel 6, we read about the punishment for praying to God—being thrown into the lion’s den. And yet, Daniel courageously prayed, as he customarily did, trusting God to deliver him from danger. Daniel lived in a distant land, and yet his heart never became detached from God. In fact, he remained steadfast from his youth to his old age. He never compromised his faith, and he obeyed God even when it cost him his life and security. This chapter teaches us how believers can remain steadfast to God amid pressure and persecution: 1.
