On 30/09/2024 at around 2000hrs, G514 Graham Cotterall briefly paused in Bathurst whilst towing New Regional Fleet train R2 from Dubbo to Auburn as Train 8172. This was the first instance of an NRF taking to the rails (albeit not under its own power yet) and attracted quite a crowd along its route, despite the late hour of its passage. This five-minute video shows my first (and so far, only) look at the New Regional Fleet when the train stopped in Bathurst en route to Auburn for its trials. As well as showing the new train, I give a bit of background on the train, once again in a style very reminiscent of @JagoHazzard; indeed this video is very Jago-esque as some UK footage appears to explain a couple of points. The people from CAF were insistent we didn't look in the cab, although it appeared the passenger saloons were fair game. Only one carriage was fitted out at this stage; the others contained sandbags. I'll reserve my judgement on these trains for when they enter service and I can ride one, but my first impressions are they look quite good, even if they are going to replace my favourite NSW trains (the XPT). A big thank you to @cttransportphotography for allowing me to use their photographs of R2 at Mindyarra Maintenance Centre. Please like, comment and subscribe for more films like this one.
