With an impressive turnout of young men and women, community representatives, and government stakeholders led by Area Chief Mr. Brown Ndoro, the session offered a safe and open platform for youth to speak boldly about the issues shaping their lives, their aspirations, and their future. Throughout the dialogue, the youth of Witu highlighted a wide range of challenges that continue to hinder their social and economic progression: ✅High levels of unemployment, leaving skilled and unskilled youth without pathways to economic stability. ✅Limited access to quality health services and Sexual & Health Awareness (SHA) information, leading to unaddressed health concerns and misinformation among the youth. ✅Insufficient TVET and skills-upgrading opportunities, despite the high demand for training in market-relevant skills that can unlock employment. ✅Lack of bursaries and scholarship opportunities, a barrier that continues to hinder many deserving students from pursuing higher education. ✅Minimal access to government information and opportunities, leaving youth disconnected from vital programs, grants, and empowerment initiatives. ✅Limited or no access to government grants and youth loans, making it difficult for young entrepreneurs to start or scale their businesses. ✅Lack of access to sanitary towels for school-going girls, a challenge that has led to absenteeism, low performance, and school dropouts. ✅Recurring farmer–herder conflicts, which continue to affect family stability, disrupt livelihoods, and create tensions within the ward. And many other socio-economic pressures that have a direct impact on youth development. What made this Baraza deeply impactful was not only the courage with which these issues were raised, but also the solutions crafted by the youth themselves. The participants engaged in constructive dialogue, offering practical recommendations such as: ✔️Advocating for a fully operational TVET center in Witu to offer market-relevant courses. ✔️Strengthening information-sharing channels between government offices and youth groups. ✔️Establishing community-based mentorship programs focusing on health, business development, and leadership. ✔️Streamlining bursary distribution processes to ensure transparency and fairness. ✔️Encouraging peace dialogues to mitigate farmer–herder conflicts. ✔️Proposing partnerships for the provision of sanitary pads to ensure girls remain in school. ✔️Pushing for increased access to economic empowerment initiatives managed by both county and national government. #lamuyouthassembly
