The Narrow & Wide Stickhandling Combination requires balance, strength, and coordination to be performed effectively. Narrow & Wide Stickhandling Combination can be performed every day in practice. Once this movement is perfected, other puck skills can be built on top of it. Essential Movement: While Striding, The Player is leaning slightly forward, with core engaged, hands away from their body and in front of their navel with their eyes up. The Player begins to handle the puck from side to side in front of their body, moving the puck in an alternating pattern – firstly within the width of their stance and secondly outside the width of their stance. The Player controls the movement by rolling the wrist of their top hand. Segmented Movement: -The Player begins to stride -The Player stickhandles the puck from side to side in front of their body, moving the puck in an alternating pattern – firstly within the width of their stance and secondly outside the width of their stance. -The Player controls the movement by rolling the wrist on their top hand. -The difficulty of the movement can be increased by increasing the quickness of the hand speed or by increasing the speed of the striding. -The movement can be practiced as either a timed interval or an assigned number of repetitions per stickhandling pattern. Common Errors: -Player not handling the puck side to side in front of their body. -Player not alternating between Narrow and Wide Stickhandling Patterns is incorrect. -Player leaning on their pants or having hands too close to their body, limits arm movement and puck control. -Knees not bent enough causes a decrease in balance, stability, and puck control. -Core not engaged will cause upper body to collapse and the Player will not be able to handle the puck with speed and control.
