II. Selam of the bayati ayin: “Yâr” Çu in sultân-ı mârâ bende bâşî “Yâr” Heme giryende tu der hande bâşî “Yâr” Eğer pür gam şeved etrâf-ı âlem “Yâr” Tu şâd u hurrem u ferhunde bâşî “Yâr” Be âşk-ı Şems-i Tebrizî bidih cam “Yâr” Ki der mülk-i Hüdâ payende bâşî Beloved l, when you become a servant of our Sultan, even if all others are weeping, you will remain in joy. Beloved, even if the whole world is filled with sorrow, you will remain joyful, blessed, and serene. Beloved, drink the cup of the love of Shams of Tabriz, so that you may endure in the kingdom of God. Yâr” means Beloved, a central word in Sufi poetry, referring to the divine beloved. “Sultan” refers to God, or to the divine principle that rules the inner world. “Drink the cup of the love of Shams of Tabriz” alludes to the tradition of Rumi and to the symbolism of mystical wine, which in Sufi poetry represents spiritual ecstasy and divine love.
