John Brittain is a Sea Angler based out of Clifden in Connemara County Galway, Ireland. During our conversation, John tells us about his connection to the ocean and that his livelihood depends on the health of the ocean. Over the course of time he's been fishing, John has seen amazing things but also worrying changes in the population of blue sharks and the size of some of our fish. John welcomes Marine Protected Areas but he says they must include "the proper management, communication and consultation with all the people that use our seas". John tells us how he believes Marine Protected Areas could lead to better sustainability, a better living for people that use the seas and a chance to protect biodiversity. Our thanks to John for taking part. Fair Seas' aim is to see Ireland, with a renewed appreciation of the ocean, become a world leader in marine protection, giving our species, habitats and coastal communities the opportunity to thrive.
