What stops you from falling asleep easily at night? - Part 1: Physical reasons It's always best to watch the entire video so that you can see the step-by-step explanation of how I help and support clients in my practice. But here are some chapters for you: 00:00 Introduction to what stops you from falling asleep easily - physical reasons 01:42 Teaching Sleep Skills for Life 02:42 Physical part of falling asleep in an easy way at night 04:31 How do you know if you are not as physically relaxed as you could be 08:19 How to draw insights from doing this exercise 11:19 Conclusions to what stops you from falling asleep physically So if you can’t fall asleep at night easily, this video is your starting point. Physical things that stop you from being able to fall asleep are naturally a bit more obvious. Still, so many clients with long-term insomnia told me that they are physically relaxed in bed, but it turned out that they weren’t so much. Learning how to relax your body in bed is a really important part of improving all parts of your sleep. There are many ways to relax your body and definitely many relaxation techniques that are out there. But another important thing in relation to being able to fall asleep easily is that no matter what you use, it has to become an internal skill, not just an external tool you use. If you have the latter, you will always have to spend time applying a tool or a technique to achieve the result. But the beauty of sleep skills that are practically internal is that you don’t have to spend so much time applying things later at night when it’s already too late most of the time. This physical component of falling asleep easily is absolutely a good starting point. Your ability to physically relax and transition into sleep will help you not only struggle less in the first part of your night, but it will also help you being able to fall back to sleep more easily in the middle of the night.
