US Navy F-35C Lightning II Demo 2024 NAS Oceana Air Show

The US Navy's F-35C Lightning II Demonstration Team brings the thunder and the lightning to the 2024 NAS Oceana Air Show. Shot on Saturday, September 21. The US Navy and USMC operate the F-35C Lightning II, the CATOBAR or carrier variant or the F-35. This variant of the Lightning features an extended wing and stabalator span, additional wing control surfaces, reinforced landing gear, and an arresting hook. The F-35A and B model have a single flaperon on the trailing edge of the wing. The C model has an inner and outer flaperon in a way that mimics the F/A-18 Hornet's control surfaces. The wing modifications provide the C model with better low speed control, which is ideal for carrier aviation. I've seen the B model plenty at air shows, but this was my first time seeing the F-35C demo. The US Navy F-35C demo team is assigned to the VFA-125 "Rough Raiders" based at NAS Lemoore, California. In past seasons, 2 F-35C performed a 2-ship demo, similar to the EA-18G Growler Demo Team. Enjoy!
