What a great day at the Gabriola nest today with multiple food deliveries by the parents and both the eaglet and hawklet ate very well. As the footage begins, the hawklet is seen self feeding on a previous fish delivery. It is busy eating for several minutes when a parent flies in at 3:05 with a fish and the hawklet does an impressive mantle (covering the food with its wings) and claims it and takes to the side of the nest. The eaglet will take over but the hawklet waits for its opportunity and will eat some scraps when the eaglet is finished. At 7:12 a parent flies in with delivery #2 and leaves it on the nest - the hawklet picks up the fish and starts to self feed. The hawklet eats for 10 minutes when a parent comes in with delivery #3. No takers - the hawklet continues to eat its original fish and the eaglet was resting. What an exciting day to watch this eagle-hawklet family! The hawklet has been on the nest now for 12 days!
