Luis Martinez' parents were 42 years old when Fidel Castro took over all the businesses, suppressed all media, outlawed religion and made life unbearable in Cuba. Luis' parents, Jose Luis and Zoila, sent Luis to the United States to escape Castro's militia, which was conspcripting all children 12 and older. Luis' parents left everything behind in Cuba - their house, car, furniture, every earthly possession, to start a new life in the U.S. Luis watched them as they struggled, and as they slowly but steadily overcame all adversities. His story is about how they worked and sacrificed to get Luis a pair of seven dollar sneakers.
