Mt Sefton’s Welcome Pass route is known for running through some spicy avalanche zones. The last two trips had been put off due to rain-on-snow and wind slab risks. Some recent parties had even been caught in avalanches on the Douglas Neve. But on the weekend of Nov 30th, 4 days of clear weather helped to settle everything. Whilst the norm has historically been to camp on Welcome Pass, we opted to camp at 2050m, just below Scott Peak. This allowed us to cross the Tekano Glacier early in the morning when it still had a surface freeze and wasn't at risk of wet slides (and would be much less of a slog). We made our summit push at 2am. With a great surface freeze, we were on the summit by sunrise, and back down to camp before the sun hit it. Less than 12 hours after reaching the summit, we were soaking in the Welcome Flat hot pools looking back up at Sefton. A great trip with Ed, Issac and Gemma. Music: Here We Go Again - Ok Go
