WALKS IN HAMPSHIRE at KING'S SOMBORNE & HORSEBRIDGE (& the RIVER TEST)

This is another video in my series “Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I take a 3 Mile circular route from the pretty village of King's Somborne (Hampshire) which is located on the A3057 between Stockbridge & Romsey. After parking my car at the (free) car park by the village hall, I take a look around the church of St Peter & St Paul and then the Crown Inn & the War Memorial. My walk then takes me across the field that still has the earthworks & remains of the manor house that was built on the site of the John Of Gaunt Palace before heading South along the side of open fields with terrific views. At the most Southern point of the walk, I head West following the line of Roman road that takes me to the tiny hamlet of Horsebridge where there is a former railway station to see (albeit through a hedge on the footpath!). I have my first sight of the enchanting River Test (with a delightful viewing of an Egret) and follow the disused railway line (the old “Sprat & Winkle Line”) Northwards – it is part of both the Monarchs Way & Test Way trails. At a crossroads on the track, after a minor detour to the West to get a great view of the river, I head East and follow the Clarendon Way trail up a hill past How Park Farm before taking my final change in direction Southwards back towards the village. I would certainly recommend a wander around King's Somborne itself as it is so pretty with many thatched cottages. Information Sources: Wikipedia, Historic England & British History Online.
