While many know him as a Hip Hop music producer with credits such as the Beastie Boys and Blackstar (Talib Kweli & Mos Def), Dr. Jason Rawls is also an educator and scholar with over two decades of teaching experience. From teaching in classrooms to performing on stages around the world, Dr. Rawls has combined his two passions to gain insight on how the creation of Hip Hop culture can provide a lens to problem solving using innovation. Dr. Rawls uses vignettes, call & response and, of course – music, to take you on a journey of discovery of Hip Hop Mentality, and how incorporating it, can be a benefit to all. Known for his music production work with artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Domo Genesis (Odd Future), Capital Steez (Pro Era), Beastie Boys, Aloe Blacc and more, Dr. Jason Rawls is also an educator with over two decades of teaching experience. As an Associate Professor of Instruction at The Patton College of Education at Ohio University, Dr. Rawls is developing the first Hip-Hop Based Education program in a College of Education in the United States and has taught courses on Hip-Hop culture at several institutions of higher education.
