Growing up in a traditional Indian family, Shalini Mohan had never imagined that one day she would become a Bass Guitarist in a rock band. Having never been exposed to rock in her childhood, she was surprised when she first picked up a bass guitar and realized that bass was exactly what she would always hum. In this talk, she takes you through her journey on how the bass helped her break stereotypes. A spunky Bangalore based Bassist/Vocalist in a leading folk rock band, Lagori, Shalini wants to break stereotypes through music. Born in a family with a great legacy of carnatic music, Shalini never really could escape the melodies. Having always been attracted to bass guitar, this young woman finally quit her 7 year stint in the IT sector and took the great leap by joining Lagori. Changing perceptions about folk rock. In a city inundated with boy bands, this lady she’s the bass! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
