POWER OF CHANGE - INTERNALIZED CHANGE Internalized change is a conscious, deliberate process of altering one's own behaviors, beliefs, or habits for personal development, rather than responding to external pressure. It requires self-discipline and voluntary action to permanently integrate new values or routines into one's identity, often transforming how a person thinks and acts. Scriptures on internalized change emphasize a shift from mere external compliance with rules to a profound inner transformation of the heart and mind, facilitated by the Holy Spirit. This process, often called sanctification or renewal, involves changing one's thoughts, attitudes, and desires to align with God’s will. Here are key scriptures and themes regarding internalized change: 1. The Call to Inner Renewal Scriptures like Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:22-24 call believers to be transformed by the renewal of their minds and to put on a new self, reflecting God's likeness in righteousness and holiness. 2 Corinthians 5:17 describes being "a new creation" in Christ, while Ezekiel 36:26 speaks of God giving a new heart and spirit. Romans 12:2 Message Bible So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, which always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you and develops well-formed maturity in you. Ephesians 4:22-24 ”...that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness." 2. Internalizing the Word (Engraving on the Heart) Psalm 119:11 highlights the practice of storing God's word in the heart to avoid sin. Jeremiah 31:33 prophesies God writing His law on hearts, and Proverbs 23:7 states that a person is as they think in their heart. Hebrews 4:12 describes God's word as discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 3. The Role of the Holy Spirit in Transformation 2 Corinthians 3:18 explains that transformation into Christ's image comes from the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruit of the Spirit, such as love, joy, and peace. Philippians 2:13 mentions God working in believers through His good pleasure. 4. Practical Application of Internal Change Colossians 3:2 encourages setting our minds on heavenly things. Philippians 4:8 advises thinking about what is true, noble, just, pure, and commendable. 2 Corinthians 10:5 instructs believers to take every thought captive to obey CHRIST.
