ATTITUDINAL CHANGE People who go through life challenges tend to see things happening to them only from a human perspective. So they give natural explanations to spiritual problems. Eventually, their wrong attitude makes their problems linger more than necessary. What they need to experience genuine and lasting change is to have their attitude transformed. Your attitude shows your point of view; it reflects how you see things, situations, people, and the world in general. It also affects what you make of the time you spend on Earth. When everything has gone wrong, and life seems to be falling apart, the turning point is a change of attitude. It makes all the difference between freedom and bondage, success and failure, surplus and lack, victory and defeat. The decision to change your attitude is entirely up to you. It's a choice that only you can make. However, you should be resolute about how to approach change, what steps to take to overcome your problems, and how to turn your trials into triumphs and turn on the light that God provides in His WORD to chase the darkness out of your life. Ask yourself, “What would I rather be: a winner or a loser, a free person or someone in bondage to frustrations and limitations?” When you have the right answers to these questions, you will be strong and courageous to diligently pursue change. King David of Israel was not faultless, but he tried to have the right attitude most of the time. For instance, when he had the opportunity to kill Saul, his arch-enemy, he refused to kill him. He said, “…because he is God’s anointed, I will not touch him.” Also, when Saul died in a battle against the Philistines, David mourned greatly for him and avenged his death on the man who killed him. In 2 Samuel 11 and 12, satan moved King David to sin against Uriah through adultery and murder. He was eventually confronted by Nathan, the prophet. With the judgment of shedding innocent blood in his hands, he cried out to God for His mercy and forgiveness. He prayed fervently, asking God to blot out his sin and transgressions. (Psalm 51:1-l9.) There is a great difference between King David's attitude when he sinned against Uriah and his family, and Adam’s response when he sinned against God. Although there are similarities in their situations because their wrongdoing involved a woman in their life, they reacted differently when they were confronted with the problems of their sins. While King David displayed so much humility and reverence for God, the attitude of Adam reflected pride and selfishness. It is true his wife, Eve, persuaded him to eat the forbidden fruit, contrary to God’s instruction, but when he was confronted by God with the sin of disobedience, he replied, “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it” (Genesis 2:16-17; 3:12) Adam refused to accept responsibility for his actions; he blamed his disobedience on his wife and God, who gave her to him. On the other hand, King David accepted he was wrong and agreed he sinned against Uriah and his family. He did not point accusing fingers at Bathsheba, Uriah's wife, or any other person. He solely accepted responsibility for his wrongdoing. In his confessional prayers, King David said to God: "For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against You, You only have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight—that You might be found just when You speak and blameless when You judge". (Psalm 51:3-4) NKJV This should be your attitude when you are faced with the consequence of your wrong choice. Avoid the blame game and accept responsibility for your actions. Rather than give an alibi for your wrongdoing, plead for God’s mercy and forgiveness to have peace and sweet communion with Him. The right attitude is your greatest asset in life. It causes you to win the battle of life before you set out to fight. It helps you not to sit back and explain away your problems or give excuses as to why you failed, but to face the problem and trust God to assist you in fixing it. The right attitude changes everything around you. It inspires you with the desire for change, peace, prosperity, promotion, and joy. It causes you to gain speed, strength, and stability. The right attitude starts from a proper mindset. Change the way you think about yourself, your situation, and the problems in your life and your relationship with people. This will inspire you to change and experience progress. It will cause you to gain speed, strength, and stability. Start thinking right by prioritizing attitude over possessions; value the good relationships that you have more than material things. Doing so will attract favor to your life and eliminate disfavor.
