The Italian Air Force Eurofighter F-2000A Typhoon display for The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025 at RAF Fairford on Sunday 20th July 2025. The aircraft is based with 311° Gruppo, Reparto Sperimentale di Volo (RSV) (experimental flight department), based at the "Mario de Bernardi" military airport in Pratica di Mare near Rome, Italy. The Eurofighter 2000 prototype first took to the air over two decades ago. Now known by most of its operators as the Typhoon, this formidable multi-role combat aircraft has since become very much an operational reality, in service not only with the air forces of Eurofighter partner nations Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK, but also those of Austria, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The Italian Air Force calls the aircraft the F-2000A, or TF-2000A in the case of two-seat versions. It currently has 93 operational Typhoons, of which 26 (16 single seat and 10 twin seat) are Tranche 1 standard. The fleet is based at four bases throughout Italy and is primarily tasked with the defence of Italian airspace. Italian Typhoons have regularly deployed to Lithuania to support the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission. The Italian Ministry of Defence signed a contract in December 2024 for up to 24 new Tranche 4+ Typhoons to replace their Tranche 1 models. As of February 2026 none have yet been delivered.
