Iowa Interstate 6988: Mitchellville Steam Engine Experience 8-18-2018

This was a last minute decided to make a the drive out to Iowa. But enjoy the first run of the American QJ, since 2012. We hope this isn't the last time it runs as the 6988 is one of the most impressive steam locomotives set has seen. This is also the first Chinese Locomotive we've chased as a channel. We'd also like to take this moment to say go support the Central Steam States Preservation Association! The 6988 is a great locomotive! So we usually don't post a scheduled on events until we go to them. Why? Well because everything is tentative. Originally on August 18th, Set would have told you up until 2 weeks before hand he would have been at the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society's Open House. When set originally heard about this as much as he wanted to go he couldn't justify the 12 hour drive with no vacation time on a weekend. After thinking about the 6988's uncertain future and the fact that he always did want to see he split up the drive but made it out to Mitchellville on 2 hours of sleep! With that being said when i Made it to Mitchellville Set was lucky as that is when the 6988 moved the train onto the mainline, and then the Iowa Interstate 702 pulled the train back into the boarding area. Originally the 6988 was supposed to lead the train into Newton but a last minute decision was to have the Diesel pull the train westbound to Altoona so the 6988 couldn't work up grade. As Newton was all down hill. I am glad they did this as the 6988 really put on a show. But with it going to Altoona made this chase a one shot chase. However on the first chase Set was able to catch him twice, by lucky! Set liked the 6988 a lot more then thought and next year if this runs again we will be there. As stated in the Labor Day Update video stay tuned! Things are about to take off with more adventures soon.
