In this video, I talk about something I’ve started recognizing about myself — being an “absent friend.” I deeply care about my friends and I will always show up when someone is in crisis, but I struggle with everyday things like texting, calling, and casual check-ins. Because of this, people sometimes feel ghosted or think they are not important to me. The truth is a bit different. I value real, meaningful, in-person interactions much more than constant digital communication or small talk. I also reflect on where this pattern may have come from — childhood conditioning, years of preparing for competitive exams, and designing a life with limited social bandwidth. I’m comfortable with solitude and rarely feel lonely, but I’ve realized that my lack of regular communication can make friendships feel one-sided. People sometimes interpret this as arrogance or carelessness, but this video is my honest attempt to explain how my mind works. It’s also a reminder to myself that friendships need intentional effort, and I’m trying to become better at that.
