Just before the crack of PM Rush, the stage was set. I will share my honest thoughts on the pending construction at Burnside. Based on resources with the planned service changes in effect, it seems like the construction work that will take place at Burnside is very identical to the work that was done at Church Av on the (B) and (Q) Lines. Even though platforms had to be closed for a certain time period, the thing that makes this service change a little different is the fact the (4) is elevated over Jerome Av and you can easily build temporary platforms on elevated structures. With the (B) and (Q), it wasn’t as easy to build temporary platforms because yes, it is outside, but its layout made it so that it crosses under streets and to get cranes to place temporary platforms at those stations before it rises above street level is difficult. That’s why trains had to skip the local stations that were at-grade or below street level even though it was outside. I personally think that if you’re going to keep service running in both directions at all stations, why not use temporary platforms kind of like the ones that are used on the (7) Line at 33 St, 40 St and 46 St. it’ll be interesting to see where they go with this. But until then, I hope you viewers enjoy this late midday journey through the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.
