Emily Scarlett reporting GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — There are still several more months to go before the opening of a massive new concert venue in downtown Grand Rapids—and 13 ON YOUR SIDE got a look at the progress so far. We were invited to get an early look inside the new Acrisure Amphitheater and it’s clear this is going to be a huge addition to the downtown area. Pioneer Construction is the group building the amphitheater and who led the tour. They say they’re about 65% of the way there. When we say this will be a huge new addition, we mean that literally. We’re told this is one of the largest stages in the country, allowing artists some real creativity and massive crowds. The seats aren’t in just yet but eventually this venue will be able to hold more than 12,000 people. That includes lawn space. Also, designers worked for months just to make sure just about every seat has the best view in the house with nothing to obstruct your view. Plus, the artists will be well taken care of with a private balcony to get out and enjoy the Grand Rapids skyline. It's not just a new amphitheater. There will also be a new park surrounding the amphitheater giving you direct access to the Grand River. You can even bring your kayak! "You'll have ramps and staircases that'll take you down to the river and so you'll be able to put kayaks, canoes in or take them out and this will just help link all the other areas and parks along the riverfront," said Eric Olson, senior project manager with Pioneer Construction. There will also be a new parking structure with approximately 375 spaces. So, a really cool addition on the way to downtown Grand Rapids and builders say they're on schedule and on budget. They're also right on time for their first concert with headliner Russell Dickerson, May 30, 2026. They're still taking donations. They say every little bit helps, but for a $1,000 donation, your name will go on a permanent plaque inside. https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/l...
