Another in our History Re-Created series. Today, I bring a recreation of an early 19th century muzzle loading flintlock squirrel rifle. A rifle similar to this would have been at home in the mountains of Southern Appalachia in the first half of the 19th Century. In fact, many rifles like this were still in use into the early days of the 20th Century. Sometimes these are called "Poor Boy" rifles but I do not like that name and think it is a little bit of an insult to the people of the region. Yes, many of them were poor. This style of rifle emerged through the needs and economic reality of the time. People in the Appalachian region needed tools to put meat on the table. Rifles like these were tools, there was no need or desire for ornamentation such as engraving, relief carving and numerous decorative inlays. Just a tool that a family could use to help feed itself and protect the family livestock from predators. I hope you enjoy viewing this common man's hunting tool as much as I enjoyed building it. #longrifle #flintlock #muzzleloader #appalachianrifle #southernmountainrifle #poorboyrifle #muzzleloading #rifle #squirrelrifle #huntingtool The camera gear I use: Canon EOS R7 #canonr7 #canon Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM #canon100-500 #canon100500 Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM #canon24-105f4 #24105 Canon RF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM #canon100mmF2.8macro #100macro Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM #canon16mmf2.8 #16mm
