Ride with me along one of Malibu’s most iconic connectors: The Decker section of the 23 — This 4.7-mile stretch features 84 beautiful curves, most of them smooth, flowing, and friendly for riders of all skill levels. But don’t get too relaxed — the final section drops steeply toward the coast with some sections without guardrails and two tight hairpin turns that can surprise newer riders as you descend toward Pacific Coast Highway. Decker Road gets its name from early homesteaders in the western Malibu hills. The road began as a rugged ranch access route that wound through the steep canyon. Over time it was widened, paved, and integrated into the developing Malibu roadway network, becoming one of the earliest north–south connectors between the mountains and the coast. The road’s official designation is State Route 23, but historically the final portion through the canyon was referred to as Decker CanyonRoad, while the upper section was labeled Decker Road.
