Beachgoer Joana Majerowitz, filming the performance with her phone 5. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Joana Majerowitz, beachgoer and Brazilian air force dentist: “I thought it was really cool. I had already seen the performance of our Brazilian smoke squadron, which is incredible and wonderful, and internationally recognized, but I had never seen it from a helicopter before. It was the first time, and I thought it was amazing, amazing. The kids are here on vacation at the beach. Everyone stopped to watch.” 6. Various of helicopters' performance 7. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Captain Gonzalo Pinazo, Patrulla Aspa pilot: “It's a bit more difficult because the helicopters with the rotors are so close together. It's a bit more dangerous. And then, well, they are machines that don't have any kind of adaptation. It's a machine that we use equally for both teaching and exhibition flights.” 9. Helicopters' performance STORYLINE: Helicopters from Spain’s Air Force aerobatic team, the Patrulla Aspa, performed an aerial display over Ipanema beach on Wednesday. Six helicopters flew in tight formation, executing synchronized maneuvers just offshore as beachgoers watched the spectacle. The demonstration marked the centenary of the Plus Ultra flight, the first successful transatlantic crossing of the South Atlantic by a single aircraft. In 1926, the Spanish seaplane departed from Huelva, stopping in Fernando de Noronha, Recife and Rio de Janeiro, before continuing to Montevideo and ending its journey in Buenos Aires. “I thought it was really cool,” said beachgoer Joana Majerowitz, who is also a Brazilian air force dentist. “I had already seen the performance of our Brazilian smoke squadron, which is incredible and internationally recognized, but I had never seen anything like this with helicopters.” According to Captain Gonzalo Pinazo, one of the Patrulla Aspa pilots, flying helicopters in such close proximity presents unique challenges. “It’s a bit more difficult because the rotors are so close together. It’s a bit more dangerous,” he said. “These are standard helicopters, with no special adaptations. They’re the same machines we use for training and for exhibition flights.” AP Video: Mario Lobao =========================================================== Clients are reminded to adhere to all listed restrictions and to check the terms of their licence agreements.
