Today I got to chase the BNSF's Watson 748 Job with Santa Fe Yellowbonnet BNSF 196 on point, along the scenic BNSF Harbor Subdivision. I chased the train from BNSF Watson Yard all the way to El Segundo, where the train did a rare movement over the El Segundo Blvd Bridge adorned with a Santa Fe Logo, before seeing it head south all the way to Lawndale. The train was massive today, being 57 cars long, being exclusively tanks for the Torrance and El Segundo refineries. I kicked off the chase at BNSF Watson Yard, where the train took longer than usual to build up their huge consist of cars, as they switched past the Santa Fe structure used as the current yard office. Upon the train taking off, I then caught the train in its entirety in Torrance near a park. My next stop was the scenic city of Lawndale, where the huge train struggled down the steep grade where the dynamic breaks were roaring. The train then pulled up to the wye at El Segundo, where it would back into the yard to switch. The train was so long, that it needed to pull all the way over the bridge at El Segudo Blvd, a bridge with a Santa Fe Logo, definitley an epic shot with a Santa Fe Yellowbonnet on top. This big cut of cars was almost too much for the train, as it inched and struggled to get over the bridge and back its cut in. It was stalling and wheelslipping for minutes. I then was able to see the train shove under the green line tracks in another spot in El Segundo. Now with a still imressive, yet smaller 37 cars, the train headed south, where I caught it at the Douglass St Metro Station, and again in a very scenic, golden hour shot, in Lawndale. The train then headed to Alcoa Yard, but since it would depart south after sunset, I hung up the chase here after a very productive day. Thanks for watching!
