Does the name Ada Lovelace mean anything to you? No? She is a mathematician and is regarded as the founder of modern computer science in the 19th century. Natalie talks about the history of coding, why it was once female and why it is not anymore. Natalie came a long way from studying french philosophers in her sociology courses to now researching the mysteries and challenges of digital culture. She is currently working at Komplexlabor Digitale Kultur and her research focuses on digital literacy, AI, Gender and Women in Programming. In 2012 she founded Code Girls, a non-profit committed to organizing workshops and talks around coding and programming especially for women. Her first book „We Love Code. Das kleine 101 des Programmierens“ was released in 2016. And since she likes being busy, she is also the editor of „Marla & The Gang“, a bi-weekly newsletter about feminism, pop culture and french fries. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
