UK Road Tours - A498 Porthmadog to Pen-y-Gwryd

Today's road tour takes us through the hills and valleys of Gwynedd, Wales, from the western edge of Porthmadog through to Pen-y-Gwryd, at the end of the Llanberis Pass. Along the way we pass through the idyllic village of Beddgelert. Much like the villages it passes through, the road has remained mostly unchanged since it was designated as part of the original numbering scheme in 1922. The only changes were at the southern end, which began as it currently is until a roundabout was implemented at the completion of the Tremadog Bypass in the 1960s. The A487 was then routed along the very short southern end of today's A498 in 1968, but this later changed back.
