Navigation is a critical aspect of The Spine Race. The race course spans challenging terrain, including snow-covered moorlands, rocky trails, and remote areas, requiring you to have a reliable navigation system to stay on track. You will need GPS devices, compass, maps, and the smartphone app, and you will need to make sure you are familiar with the operation of all the devices and to navigate safely along the race. In this episode we discuss features of different navigation systems, including accuracy, durability, battery life, ease of use, and compatibility with the race course requirements. I share the way I use my Garmin Enduro 2, alongside a Garmin 64 ST handheld, as well as the maps and compass. While some races are well marked and easy to navigate - such as UTMB or Tor des Geants - The Spine race is quite demanding in terms of navigation. for your safety, make sure you familiarise yourself with your devices as much as possible.
