For weeks, the rain hasn’t really stopped. Flooded fields. Saturated ground. Outdoor projects paused again. And every plan quietly rearranged around the weather. When we removed the bedroom ceiling, we thought this part would be simple, clear the beams, add insulation, move forward. It wasn’t. Once everything was exposed, the responsibility felt heavier. Old timber. Hidden gaps. Damp creeping in from weeks of storms. When you open something up like this, you realise that getting it wrong now means feeling it every winter. So while the barn waits for the ground to dry, we’re focusing on what we can control, cleaning the roof structure, installing insulation, and slowly rebuilding this space properly for the first time. And then, finally, the sun came back for a few days. The animals stretched out in the warmth. The land started to breathe again. And for the first time in a while, it felt like we were moving with the season, not just reacting to it. This isn’t just renovation. It’s learning how to build long-term. If you’ve been following our journey, thank you for being here. If you’re new, this is real life on our homestead in Portugal, weather, setbacks, progress and all.
