Race 1 - 00:00 Race 2 - 22:32 This weekend was the fourth weekend of the PWC 2020 season by Phoenix Racing Club. We raced a sprint race and feature race at Anderstorp Raceway (2007 layout). I got pole and placed P1 in both races in what turned out to be a perfect weekend. Recently I've been pondering a problem that I've been noticing in my driving: out of nowhere losing pace during races. A lot of times when I race, I would suddenly lose feeling for the car and this would result in me suddenly dropping of the pace. When I then try to gradually push the car to go quicker, I wouldn't be able to put the car on the limit more either, since almost subconsciously I would be trying to take it easier because I'm anxious that the car will do something unpredictable. Lately, as the level of competition has been increasing in the series, this problem is starting to cost me results. For the amount of practice laps I do to try to mitigate this as much as possible, it's still a worrying problem that this happens despite how much preparation I do. During practice I would toss the car around just fine, but during the race it still felt like I was walking on eggshells with the car when I became unfocused. Ultimately it seems that a big weakness of mine is not having a way to bring the car up to speed methodically and quickly, and as a result losing feeling for what I'm doing during a stressful situation. Identifying this problem through watching my replays and reviewing old results made me feel slightly better, as I could now pinpoint what I needed to fix about my driving. As a result, I slightly changed how I practiced for this round. I wouldn't just do a bunch of laps and hope that I can drill consistency into me. I focused on remembering how the car feels when it is pushed, and imagining the braking forces and the car rotate spatially as I turned for each corner. Setup work was slightly more challenging for this round due to the banked corners coupled with long straights, but I made sure to make the car feel comfortable enough for me to even break traction and not lose confidence. Throughout the race, I actively used the mental cues that I had practiced to keep my pace on track. The result was probably one of my most consistent drives so far. Due to the the long straights, I was expecting another DRS battle like last time in Canada. But even though I was prepared to race, I managed to stay ahead from the start and led to the line. Ultimately, it was an off week for Photon and Gunciz, having driven the day before in an endurance race. However, seeing as how they got fastest laps in both the races and not me, it was clear they had the pace to give me a run for it. Obviously, there is still a lot to work on, and there were still times in this race where I caught myself losing focus, but hopefully I can take what was successful from this race and continue to make it work for not just the rest of the season but for the rest of all my simracing. Thanks to everyone who raced, and thanks to Phoenix Racing Club for hosting the championship and running a live broadcast!
