👉 Boost your recovery with my free recovery nutrition guide! 💪 https://nutritiontriathlon.com/recove... Fructose is an incredible sugar for athletes A quick explanation of why fructose is so important for sport. Along with glucose it's the main energy source of athletes and is part of the carbohydrate family. It has a slightly different role compared to glucose in sport, because fructose isn't used directly for energy. Some of it is converted to glucose and some of it is converted to glycogen to be stored in the liver. On it's own fructose is a slow acting carbohydrate though, so it shouldn't be used as a sole source of energy. It's needs to be combined with another sugar to become a fast acting carbohydrate. Whether you're interested in triathlon, cycling, running or any other sport, understanding what fructose is in and how much you should consume is so important for sports performance.
