My dumb phone and digital minimalism journey led me to be more intentional with the time I spend online, which surprisingly ended up impacting the way that I dress. In this video, I will discuss how and why I think that might have happened and how it led me to embrace slow fashion. Pursuing digital minimalism and using a dumbphone not only made me want to become more intentional with my tech use, but also other aspects of my life, like clothing. I learned about the negative impacts of fast fashion and started looking for slow fashion alternatives. One of those was those was thrift shopping — getting into curating a thrifted closet in order to slowly build a more ethical / minimalist wardrobe. Thrift shopping became a fun offline hobby for me, and looking for second hand clothes became a treasure hunt. It has been fun to experiment with my secondhand style ever since. This lifestyle shift aligned well with frugal living and minimalism, as well as my intent to support ethical and mindful fashion. In general, being more mindful about the time I spent online made me a more conscious consumer — I saw less ads, trends, and curated posts that made me feel pressured to buy clothing, and the urgency to buy things and pursue the perfect wardrobe faded. Underconsumption and frugal living was just a byproduct of that. Now my wardrobe is very minimal and definitely not perfect but it's practical and functional and definitely not trendy.
