In this documentary, Luna Wright shares her journey to becoming a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Outpatient Therapist specializing in perinatal substance use. Through early life adversities, Luna experienced a childhood that profoundly shaped her understanding of addiction, family systems, and survival. Her path highlights the non linear realities of education and career development, showing how lived experience can become a foundation for meaningful clinical work. Luna’s story emphasizes that detours, pauses, and re-direction do not diminish purpose, but can strengthen it. By blending lived experience with scientific curiosity and community service, this film highlights the non-linear realities of education and career development. Luna’s story challenges traditional narratives of who belongs in these roles and emphasizes that persistence, adaptability, and purpose can open doors to neuroscience, therapy, and research careers. This documentary is intended to inspire young and non-traditional students, particularly those from underrepresented or uncertain academic backgrounds, to see themselves in neuroscience and to believe that their experiences can be a strength, not a barrier.
