Hey!!🇮🇹🍝✨ In June, I had the pleasure of visiting Milan with my friends for a few unforgettable days. On June 16th, the first day of our trip, we spent the afternoon strolling around the city and made our way to the famous Naviglio Pavese. Since it was a Sunday, we had heard about local markets, but when we arrived, only a few stalls were open, mostly selling touristy items. We decided to continue our walk along the river and stumbled upon a charming photo booth shop. Of course, we couldn’t resist taking some fun group photos to capture the moment! Later that day, we visited the Arco della Pace and wandered down Corso Sempione to enjoy an aperitivo, a beloved Italian tradition where you can indulge in a buffet, typically for a set price, along with one alcoholic drink. Unfortunately, the selection didn’t cater well to vegetarians and pescatarians like me, so it wasn’t quite worth it. I also tried an Aperol Spritz for the first time, but found it too bitter—probably due to the soda used in the mix. As evening fell, we returned to the park we had passed earlier, where we discover a free festival with fantastic music and a vibrant atmosphere. We spent a few hours dancing and soaking up the energy, but eventually, our tired feet urged us to head back and rest. The next day, June 17th, we made our way through the elegant Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, where every Instagram enthusiast seems to capture their photos beside luxury designer stores. It was a stunning sight, though crowded with tourists, so we simply walked through. While exploring nearby side streets, we came across a local bistro with a growing line outside. We decided to join the queue, and once inside, realized there were no English menus and the staff spoke very little English. Typical tourists that we were, we didn’t know any Italian, so it was all about finger-pointing and thumbs-up gestures! Despite the language barrier, we managed to order some delicious food, and as we left, the staff waved us off with huge smiles, shouting their goodbyes. Even some locals smiled and laughed! I think they appreciated our effort to immerse ourselves in the local culture rather than opting for the nearby McDonald's. After lunch, we visited the magnificent Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral) and climbed the hundreds of steps to the top. Our legs were aching, but the breathtaking views made it all worthwhile! On June 18th, we took an early morning train to Lake Como and spent the day exploring the enchanting villages surrounding the lake. Varenna was undoubtedly our favorite, with its lively restaurants along the water, charming ice cream parlors hidden in narrow alleyways, and local markets selling beautiful jewelry. Everything about the place felt like a dream, and that’s exactly how I would describe Lake Como—dreamy and magical! That evening, we went out for a night of fun at Duomo 21, a rooftop bar with stunning views of Milan and the cathedral. It was the perfect way to end the day. On our final day, June 19th, we visited the Fontana di Piazza Castello. It was an incredible sight, though we didn’t have much time to explore since we slept in after the previous night out, and the museum closed by 4 or 5 PM. For our last meal in Milan, we dined at Ai Balestra, and it was absolutely delicious! The next morning, we were on our way back to Belfast. Reflecting on the trip, I feel so grateful for the incredible memories we made together. It was truly an unforgettable adventure!
