Join us today as we explore more of Northern Vancouver Island. We are Scott and Steph, a couple of adventurers seeking out fun, unique and beautiful spots on Vancouver Island with our adventure pup Google in our converted van Stella. If you enjoy watching our adventures, please like and subscribe! Near the end of the road of the Northern tip of Vancouver island, where the rainforest meets the tide, lies the town of Holberg, BC remote and steeped in logging history. At the heart is the Scarlet Ibis Pub, a cozy haven with excellent food, beers made locally on the Island, and views of Quatsino Sound as eagles soar and chatter. Scarlet Ibis Pub Website - https://scarletibis.ca/ Scarlet Ibis Pub History - Nestled at the head of Holberg Inlet on Vancouver Island, the Scarlet Ibis Pub & Restaurant is aptly dubbed the island’s most remote pub, first opening its doors back in the early 1970s. For over 40 years, it was lovingly run by Patricia Gwynne, who built its cozy charm and reputation as a warm welcome for locals, loggers, and adventurers alike. In a remarkable turn of events, twelve friends—many from business backgrounds—teamed up and purchased the pub during the COVID‑19 pandemic. Their shared goal: preserve this wilderness icon and revitalize it with smart upgrades. Their improvements include modernized kitchen facilities, upgraded electrical and gas systems, a sturdier oceanfront deck, and even outdoor washrooms to serve adjacent “Adventure Huts” for overnight guests. Locals and visitors now enjoy signature brews in partnership with Nanaimo’s Longwood Brewery: the Red Bird Logger, available only at the pub, and North Coast Trail Ale, sold more widely—with 25¢ from each can sold dedicated to supporting improvements to the North Coast Trail. In 2023, these proceeds raised a notable donation of $2,200 toward park enhancements. Most of the traffic we see here is heading to San Josef Bay, constantly ranked one of Canada's best beaches. San Josef Bay is a wild masterpiece of almost white sand, towering sea stacks, and is located inside Cape Scott Provincial Park. Alder Bay Campground - Alder Bay RV Park & Marina, situated north of Port McNeill on Vancouver Island, is a serene and family‑friendly waterfront campsite offering over 30 years of relaxed, rustic charm balanced with modern amenities. Set on 30 acres of private oceanfront land, it features more than 80 fully serviced and unserviced sites—including pull-through RV slots and tenting spots—plus moorage for boats up to 26 feet. Visitors can enjoy a host of on-site comforts: a licensed food truck (Roxy’s Diner), a small convenience store, laundry facilities, Wi‑Fi, propane, sani‑dump, showers, and a boat launch through a protected marina with about 40 slips. Here we also saw a humpback whale swimming right past the dock. Good morning the original plan for today was to head to Alert Bay but we decided to save that for another time and spend more of our day at the campsite enjoying some beach and relaxation. But first breakfast, a trip to telegraph cove and a quick stop into the town of Port McNeill, BC. Telegraph Cove, a former mill-and-cannery village turned eco‑tourism gem on northern Vancouver Island, suffered a significant blow when a fire broke out on December 31, 2024. It swept through the north end of the historic boardwalk, destroying the Whale Interpretive Centre (and its priceless marine‑mammal skeleton collection), the Old Saltery Pub, Killer Whale Café, several tour offices, staff housing, and portions of the pier. Despite the loss, the Graham family—who have owned and nurtured the resort for decades—swiftly committed to rebuilding. Cleanup began early in 2025, with debris removal and environmental containment managed in collaboration with provincial agencies. As summer arrived, Telegraph Cove accommodations reopened and a provisional food service—hosted in the general store and outdoor barbecue setup—welcomed visitors. As of August 2025 most of the Telegraph Cove boardwalk has been repaired but they are still working on rebuilding the businesses. The whale interpretive centre is open but it is under a tent while construction continues. 0:00 - Intro 1:00 - Road to Holberg 2:20 - Scarlet Ibis 4:30 - Holberg Drone 7:54 - Alder Bay Campground 9:15 - Scott BBQ 11:43 - Good Morning 12:45 - Telegraph Cove 17:50 - Port McNeill 18:30 - Beach Time 21:00 - Humpback Whale 22:25 - Google Playtime 23:53 - Woss Vegas #scarletibispub #telegraphcove #alderbaycampground #VancouverIsland #ExploreBC ##BeautifulBC #scarletibis #holberg #telegraphcovefire #camping #campingvancouverisland #vancouverislandhiking #NatureLovers #VanLife #bcfishing #whalewatching #humpbackwhale #bbqshow #oceanfrontcamping #ford #fordvanconversion #vanconversion #bostonterrier #travelcouple #Canada #fordtransit #vanlifers #bcparks #campingbritishcolumbia #britishcolumbia #pnw
