I struggled with emotional/binge eating for over 10 years. One KEY factor in helping me overcoming binge eating was my SELF-TALK. First I had to learn what self-talk even was (because I was completely unaware of what self-talk was). Second, I had to become aware of what my OWN habitual self-talk looked and sounded like. Third, I had to practice what I WANTED my self-talk to look and sound like which was being able to tell myself EXACTLY what I needed to do, and in that very moment: get myself to do it (which is also known as “self-discipline”). Learning how to improve my self-talk and COMMAND myself to take immediate action in the moment was VITAL in helping me becoming the person I wanted to be who NO LONGER struggled with overeating, emotional eating, binge eating, inhaling her food, fixating on the scale or her body, and many other habits that I had to break. The KEY to improving my self-talk and self-discipline, however, was starting INCREDIBLY small. I gave myself MANAGEABLE, TINY HABITS that I genuinely felt I was capable of doing and worked my way up, slowly, but surely.
