While poring over old newspaper reports of the Hood and Moncrieff search in 1928, came across a couple of mentions of Bayonet Peak and Trig. Apparently, the forest ranger based at Kaitoke used its summit as a lookout. Hadn't heard of this peak before, so was intrigued and thought it might be fun to go and have a look for it. My initial conclusion, it's likely to be either .656 or .805. The ranger talked of it being ten miles from Omega, where he thought he'd seen wreckage of the Aoteoroa, but have low confidence in the estimate, as he'd talked about seeing objects of two and four feet in size, and that eagle eyed vision sounded unlikely to me.
