Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving! Here's another addition to the Dr. Sugai's Premed Forum! This video was intended for the University of Hawaii MSMP or Medical Student Mentorship Program- a program that I participated in on both sides (as a pre-med student at University of Hawaii at Manoa studying biology and art and as a medical student). Here I am doing my talk with student doctor Piueti Maka- first year medical student at my alma mater- University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. Part One was pre-recorded (hence the wardrobe change): talking about my background and story. Part Two: Q&A with Piueti- questions that were collected from the MSMP students. I discuss tips to applying to medical school, normalizing imposter syndrome and how to deal with it, and things to consider when taking a gap year. I also go over my experience with starting social media during a pandemic. I miss the islands and hope to visit soon and hopefully give a lecture to the medical students sometime!
