Winter days have a certain quiet magic—When the home feels even cozier. These quiet days are perfect for crossing some of the slower tasks off the to-do list. In this video, I’m leaning into exactly that by topping up my favourite homemade laundry soap, preserving, baking in big batches, and tending to my shop orders. You will find all the recipes below. I hope you’ll enjoy spending some time with me on this simple winter day. 📷 INSTAGRAM: / wild_inthe_woods 📖 BLOG: https://livewildinthewoods.com 🤲🏽 SHOP OFFERINGS: https://www.wildinthewoodsshop.com 💌 - The Maker’s Almanac - A club for those who love all things handmade. To a large pot, add 1-2 bars of Simply Clean Soap ( I will link the one I buy in my storefront - https://www.amazon.ca/shop/wild_inthe... , it will be listed under soap making supplies, it's called Simply Clean Stain Remover) The amount of bars you add will depend on how much soap you want to make. As I said in the video, I use two bars and that will make a full 5-gallon bucket of laundry soap. Bring the pot to a simmer and allow the bars to melt completely. While it's still warm, dump the melted soap into your container of choice ( I use a clean 5-gallon pail), fill the rest of the way with warm water, and cover with a lid. Allow this to sit for 24 hours. You should be left with a gel-like soap. I then use a 1/4 cup measure and add this soap directly to the liquid soap dispenser on my washing machine. Part 2 - Dry Soap. Mix as much washing soda, baking soda, and borax as you would like to a bucket or container of choice. ( again, I use another clean 5-gallon pail and another 1/4 cup measure.) I then scoop the powder and add it directly to the clothes in the machine. Cover with a lid to store. (If you are going to make your own washing soda, please remember that baking soda is no longer edible once it is heated in the oven and becomes washing soda. Please label all jars carefully and do your own research.) This soap is simple and fragrance free, but cleans really well and lasts for months. Big Batch Banana Muffins - (This recipe can also be used as Banana Bread ) Makes 48 Muffins. ( Perfect for freezing ) Ingredients: • 3 cups sugar • 4 cups applesauce (1 quart jar) (substituted for 2 cups butter) • 8 eggs • 8 ripe bananas, mashed • 1 cup milk ( or 1 ½ cups milk if using butter ) • 4 tsp vanilla • 8 cups flour • 4 tsp baking soda • 2 tsp salt • Add cinnamon (optional, but recommended) Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease or line muffin tins with paper. 2. In a large bowl, mix together sugar and applesauce. Add in eggs, bananas, milk, and vanilla. 3. Add in flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Stir to moisten the ingredients, being careful not to overmix the batter. 4. Pour batter into muffin cups and bake for 30- minutes, or until they are cooked all the way through and nicely golden on top. 5. Remove and place on a wire cooling rack. Cool completely before storing. I place most of these muffins in a ziplock bag and freeze. They are perfect for adding to lunches, or as a quick breakfast or snack. #simpleliving #homemaking #calming #relaxing #chillvibes #peacefulmoments #calmingsounds #visualdiary #handdyedyarn #slowliving #peacefulmusic
