My Life As A Canvas: Maclean Thiessen at TEDxManitoba 2013

I am a physician in my last year of residency training in Medical Oncology at the University of Manitoba. I chose medicine, and cancer care specifically, because I enjoy the challenge of finding beauty in difficult situations. The experiences I have had caring for patients have impacted me in a tremendous and humbling way. A tremendous amount of energy is spent in our lives in the denial of death. What would happen if we used this energy for another purpose? What if we spent that energy to improve our own lives and the lives of others? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
